ATLANTA – As we reach the close of the Georgia General Assembly’s special session on redistricting, Progress Georgia is responding to the Georgia GOP rushing through gerrymandered maps in a feeble attempt to latch on to their fastly fading power in the state. The progressive non profit has released a recap video and new social campaign highlighting the citizens and activists who ensured that the will and needs of everyday Georgians were spoken and heard, whether or not unfair partisan actors were listening.
Nicole Henderson, Communications Strategist of Progress Georgia said,
“The redistricting process that has taken place in Georgia has lacked transparency and has not taken into account the will of the people. Each legislative day during the Special Session, any number of activists, organizers, and every day citizens showed up to express their disdain for the maps as they were drawn by the GOP.
Today we are launching a campaign that highlights the relentless efforts to raise the concerns of the citizens of Georgia that want to ensure that they are able to fairly select their representatives. It’s clear that our GOP legislators were not concerned about the thousands of statements received during the session, but they were more concerned about their own political power. Today we HONOR all those that stood up for fair maps in the state of Georgia.”
