RELEASE: Progress Georgia Joins National Campaign to Hold Representative Austin Scott Accountable for Siding with the Rich Instead of Building Back Better

Campaign includes a week of action to hold Republicans accountable for their refusal to back popular and necessary economic policies.

ATLANTA –  Progress Georgia has joined a nationwide campaign calling on Republicans and all members of Congress to choose everyday Americans and pass Biden’s Build Back Better agenda by making the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share.

Progress Georgia is calling on Representative Austin Scott of HD 8 to tax the rich, who have only gotten richer during the pandemic, in order to expand Medicaid for 726,000 Georgians and provide dental, hearing, and vision as part of Medicare; Allow Georgians to pay less for prescription drugs and out-of-pocket health care costs, pay less for child care, get paid family and medical leave, create affordable long term care, and so much more that our working families need. The choice should be clear.

Poll after poll shows that Georgians and Americans alike overwhelmingly support the Build Back Better agenda: 90 percent of Georgians across party lines support investing in long term care and 85 percent of Georgians support expanding Medicare while 74 percent of Georgians support funding the plan through an increased capital gains tax on the wealthy.

Nicole Henderson, Communication Strategist for Progress Georgia said:

“It’s a known fact that Georgia’s rural hospitals have been faced with financial challenges. We also know the devastation that happens within  a community when they lose essential services such as healthcare providers. Georgians at no fault of their own are left behind when they have to delay medical treatment due to the challenges of finding a healthcare provider. In order for rural Georgia communities to get the adequate resources needed for a quality of life comparable to other Georgians in more metropolitan areas, Rep. Scott and the rest of Congress need to vote in favor of the Build Back Better plan.”

Actions include:
